NARS Sheer Matte Foundation VS Makeup Forever HD Foundation
I’ve been happily using Make Up For Ever’s HD Invisible Cover Foundation in #118. But about a month ago I stopped by the NARS counter to get new blushes and I also picked up the NARS Sheer Matte Foundation in Fiji. I’ve been switching between the two since then and here are my thoughts.
MUFE HD Invisible Cover Foundation
Price: $40
Coverage: Med-Full
Application: Applied with fingers smoothly for an even finish
Longevity: Lasts all day
My Thoughts: One con would be that I don’t always want a full-coverage foundation on. Also, it leaves my skin more flat so I definitely need to use it with a bronzer/blush for contouring. Lastly, I’m not completely in love with the shade but again, bronzer/blush fixes that problem. My favorite aspect of this foundation is that the application/finish is sooo smooth and light, smoother than any other liquid foundation I’ve ever tried! The formula just melts into your skin. I will definitely keep repurchasing this, perhaps in a different shade?

Application: Harder to apply smoothly and if you rub too much it’ll start flaking off
Longevity: Lasts most of the day, although will wear down since it is more sheer
My Thoughts: I love the shade of this foundation which is the reason I bought this in the first place even though I have plenty of my MUFE foundation left. Here’s what I don’t like: I find the packaging inconvenient. The Square top can pop off without taking the real lid off of the bottle. It’s like needing to go through 2 lids to get to your foundation. I absolutely cannot work with the application. I apply all my foundation with my fingers and I find that as I work it onto my face it will flake off of my skin and leave me looking patchy.
Conclusion
I will stick to my MUFE foundation. The application is essential for me and I was getting too frustrated with all the flaking that NARS was causing. So frustrated that today I took it back to Nordstrom and exchanged it for MAC’s Cyndi lipstick, hehe. Maybe it’s because I was applying the foundation on incorrectly? I know that other beauty bloggers have raved about NARS foundation. :T

Is the NARS Fiji shade very comparable to the HD foundation? I was wondering, since the HD #118 is a dead on match to my skin, and I don’t have a Sephora near me to get matched to NARS. have you tried any MAC foundations? If so What shade are you in those?

MUFE is a good match on me but I think that NARS Fiji is a more perfect match. MUFE gives me a duller undertone and NARS gives me just a little more color. I would assume that Fiji could not be too far off from you shade so I’d give it a go. I personally prefer the application/consistency of MUFE but I’ve heard lots of good reviews on NARS sheer glow (as long as you’re not oily). I haven’t tried any MAC foundations yet but I’ll definitely post about it if I do. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi! I happened across this page while searching for this very topic – MUFE HD vs NARS Sheer Glow. I had a hard time finding a comparison of just these two! I’m so glad I found this, because I love the HD but have been toying with buying NARS. You saved me 42 dollars! Thank you for the great review, I’ll have to stay tuned to this site.

Hi Brianne! I’m so glad that you found that post helpful and it helped you save money!! Woohoo! As of now, I really love MUFE HD Foundation. I’m wondering if I’ll need to find something a bit more light weight for the summer… but for now I’m very happy with this. Let me know if you have any recommendations for a light weight foundation that’s good for the summer!

Thanks for your informative reply! I appreciate it very much. I’ll def. be purchasing NARS foundation in fiji soon. In your post you mentioned that you would purchase the MUFE HD in a different shade, what shade would that be? as I feel also it leaves my face flat, with a greyish cast. & is slightly a bit dark for me.

Hi Julie! I haven’t been able to find the perfect MUFE HD yet… but then again, I haven’t really been actively trying. But lately, I’ve just been using MAC’s concealer to coverup my t-zone and that’s pretty much it. I got matched to be NW25 but it’s looking a bit orange-y on me… It’s so hard to find the perfect shade!!!

Hi! Nice review! i wanted to try both but maybe I’ll try the makeup forever foundation.. But I’m really wondering about how it transfers onto clothes since my boyfriend and friends like to give me hugs and my makeup always ends up on their clothes :[
