The Quest for the perfect oil controlling product | Part I

*nervous fidgeting and awkward cough*

I suffer from oily skin.

(T__T)

It’s embarrassing. I need to constantly blot throughout the day or I turn extremely shiny.  To cope, I’ve been using blotting powder and blotting tissue (aka toilet seat covers and Starbucks napkins).  But these all are not taking care of the root cause.  I need something that’ll PREVENT!  So this is what I’m going to do. I will be blogging about my journey through different oil controlling products until I find the one that will actually help prevent getting oily throughout the day.  If I can help just one other person with this (besides myself!), then it will have been worth it. (^__^) Let me know if that’s you!!!

The first product that I have tried is the Bare Escentuals Prime Time Oil Control Foundation Primer.  The Sephora lady told me that it was the best oil controlling product that they have in the store.  I was slightly skeptical because I already own the original Prime Time Foundation Primer and am not impressed (barely use it) BUT I decided to give it a go and bought it.  Well, I tried it for two days now and find that I still have to blot throughout the day.  It might be helping a teeny bit but ultimately it is not doing what it claims to do.

Here is my comparison between the two.

Bare Escentuals Prime Time Foundation Primer

The original Prime Time Foundation Primer is clear and has a thicker consistency (I’m thinking silicon).  Once you apply it, it leaves yours skin feeling powdery.  It’s quite strange… I’m not a fan but it does leave your face very smooth. It doesn’t make enough of a difference for me to spend that extra minute or two applying it in the morning.

The Prime Time Oil Control Foundation Primer is also clear but is more water based and leaves your skin like you had just applied moisturizer on it.  You need to be careful to fully let it dry or it may peel while you are applying foundation.  After about 3-4 hours, I was a hot mess and had to blot.  Fail.

Neither have a distinct smell.  Both cost $21 each.  It’s not that I feel like these are bad products… they did not cause me to break out like some other primers do *cough* smashbox photofinish primer *cough*.  I’m just not impressed and feel that I can do better… haha.

So the quest continues.  Do you have any oil control products that you would recommend?  Have you tried the Bare Escentuals Prime Time Oil Control Foundation Primer?  Let me know~

A BEAUTYFULL adventure begins.. <3

UPDATE: YIKES! By the way, I did a swatch on my hand and have been typing for about… 30 minutes?  I just looked down at my hand on the oil control side and it’s PEELING!! GROSS!

  • Are you still doing this quest? I’m travelling to a humid area this summer and I personally would find it very helpful.

  • the best thing i use for oil control is this one “blotting” powder by this makeup artist, Mally Roncal. Its amzing! She does makeup for people like beyonce and j-lo. Anyways! The products name is called Evercolor Poreless Face Defender. Like I said, its kinda like a blotting powder but not. Its not even a powder. After you do ur makeup, u blot it on ur face or whereever you get shinny and ur completely matte!http://www.mallybeauty.com/store/category/qvc_exclusives/face/item/FA0024/evercolor_poreless_face_defender/
