Dry Skin Alert!! Dry Skin Remedies
Does anyone else have super dry skin right now?
I know a lot of states are going through some crazy freezing weather but it’s actually not THAT bad in Seattle.
But regardless for the past week or two I’ve had super crazy dry hands, lips, back and sometimes feet.
I can kinda see why. I’m constantly washing my hands in hot water throughout the day to prevent getting sick. I’ve also been eating every couple of hours and haven’t been applying lip balm afterwards. And while I can do some heavy moisturizing on my body after a shower, there are parts of my back that I can never reach!
So ultimately… it’s not just the cold weather to blame. I see where I need to change too! So let’s see what I (and you too) can do to ensure soft, moisturized skin throughout the winter!
DRY HANDS
Let’s start of with dry hands. While I’m not giving up on washing my hands in hot water with anti-bacterial soap, I can be better about always moisturizing afterwards. Here’s what I’m going to try- KEEP LOTION EVERYWHERE!! That way, I’ll always see it around and remember to reapply consistently!
Locations to stock up: By the bed, by all bathroom sinks, on the coffee table, in the car and of course in all my bags.
Recommended hand lotions for dry skin:

I know some of you may use gloves at night… but I just don’t think I would ever be able to fall asleep with them on! The thought did cross my mind though…

DRY BACK
Well the issue for me is that I’m SUPER inflexible… like seriously, have never done the splits in my life. It’s a good day when I can touch my toes. Hubs on the other hand is extra flexible even though you’d never expect it by looking at his body type. Anywho, I only see a few options here.
1. Get more flexible – HA! Not sure I’ll ever be able to cover my whole back by myself… but doesn’t hurt to start stretching more!
2. Buy a contraption that helps you moisturize hard to reach places. This is no joke, you can buy one of these bad boys at Bed Bath and Beyond!
Lotion Applicator Back Brush $5.99

3. Utilize the Hubs – Start timing my showers so that Hubs is around to fully moisturize my back when I’m out. PLUS, what a great opportunity for an added back massage?
If you don’t have someone at home to help you out or maybe it’s just too much work, I’d recommend option 2!
And the lotion that’s been working best for me these days is Palmer’s Cocoa Butter FRAGRANCE FREE! I really don’t like the natural scent of cocoa butter so I always have to get the unscented kind.
Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Fragrance-Free $6.49

DRY LIPS
Okay confession time, I’m a lip picker. It’s such a bad habit I know! If I have dry lips, I’ll pick at it. And oh my goodness, the past couple weeks my lips have been SO dry! If I have something on my lips (lip balm, lipgloss, lipstick) I’ll leave them alone so it’s best for me to always have something on! The only challenge is that I’m trying to eat small meals throughout the day and drink tons of water so it’s constantly being wiped off. Really the only solution that I’m seeing is to keep reapplying!

Hi! I have very dry skin (cracked heels, peeling nails, hands that hurt…) and this year seems to be worse for me, despite the fact it hasn’t been that cold here. I also wash my hands a lot because of the kids (other than my own) and the grocery store… Talk about gross! I think some adults need to learn from kids about spreading germs. I have a nighttime routine that drives the Hubby crazy, because I am always smearing myself with some sort of skin or hair care product before I hit the bed, then I am smearing more stuff in bed (the product I’m mentioning below). Gotta defy age honey!
I was putting down my HG body products here and I realized it was a HUGE list! I will recommend one thing that I have been using and has helped my cracked heels and really rough, painful hands: Alaffia Handcrafted Shea Butter. It’s hand filled here in Fife and while it doesn’t smell as “pretty” as L’Occitane’s Pure Shea Butter in the tin and it is “harder” in the jar*, it seems to do a better job at absorbing into my skin than L’Occitane. Don’t get me wrong, it feels “greasy” at first because it’s so thick, but it will absorb and leave a protective layer. Plus, it’s great for the ends of my hair. A little goes a long way. (*I use a spatula to scoop it out and rub it in my hands to warm it up. I used a spatula for L’Occitane too because I’m weird that way.)

Hey Rose! Cool, I’ll have to look into that! One thing that helps a lot with my heels is soaking them in hot water for 15-20 minutes (usually with epson salt), then filing them down. After I’ve rinsed and dried, I apply cream. Doing this once a week and applying more cream every night before I go to sleep keeps my feet pretty soft. The only thing is that I get lazy, haha. I’d love to know your holy grails if you want to email them to me one day!
