FOTD:

"Face of the Day." See some of my latest looks while I’m out and about. Maybe you’ll see something that inspires or interests you!

FOTD Featuring Bobbi Brown, NARS and Clinique

Hey everyone!

I’m finally feeling better (minus a little sniffle) and actually have the energy to start wearing makeup again.  While I was getting ready I realized that I missed sitting at my vanity playing with makeup!  Here’s the look I’m wearing today.  It’s a simple everyday purple/gray tone look that I love! Unfortunately the colors don’t show up very strong in the photo.

FOTD Purples FOTD Featuring Bobbi Brown, NARS and Clinique

It was actually kind of embarrassing taking this photo so I tried to be a bit discreet, haha!  Since it’s so overcast today I had to open our kitchen blinds to take these self portraits… hopefully the neighbors weren’t home.

So here’s what I have on!

FACE | Garnier BB Cream (totally appreciating how moisturizing this is after my cold!)

BROWS | MAC Concrete Eyeshadow

CHEEKS | NARS Gaiety Blush

LIPS | Urban Decay Lovechild Lipstick, MAC Chatterbox, MAC Lazy Day and Sephora Rouge Shine No. 14 (I was trying to achieve a certain pink shade hence so many colors, haha)

EYES | Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow – Heather, NARS Lhasa, Clinique Iced Mauve and Maybelline Velvet Crush

Can you tell I love my purple/gray shades? <3

FOTD Bobbi Brown NARS Clinique Maybelline FOTD Featuring Bobbi Brown, NARS and Clinique

Here’s how you can achieve the look too!

1. Apply Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow in Heather all over the crease of your eyes as a base.

2. Pat on Clinique Iced Mauve on top of Heather and a bit above the crease as well.

3. Deepen the outer V with NARS Lhasa and also run it along your upper and lower lash line.

4. Highlight using the “base” shade in your Maybelline quad under your brows.  Then mix the “base” and “lid” shades to highlight your inner corners of your eyes.

5. Line your eyes with any black liner (I used MAC Added Goodness) and smudge it out with the “liner” shade from the Maybelline quad.

6. Optional: Line your upper waterline with a black liner.  I think this really deepens the look of your eyes and makes them appear larger.

7.  Curl lashes and apply mascara (I used Covergirl Lash Perfection mascara).

And that’s it! I wish I could accurately show you the colors because it looks so faint in the photo!  :(  On most days my entire eye look consists of all MAC or Urban Decay but this is my one look that uses a combination of one-off pieces from other brands that I don’t purchase too often! icon smile FOTD Featuring Bobbi Brown, NARS and Clinique

Anyway, I hope you’re doing well and finishing off the week strong! Tomorrow is Friday! Woohoo!

Wishing you a wonderful Thursday!

FOTD: Grey Blue Smokey Eye featuring MAC Scene and Graphology

Happy Halloween all!
I hope you are having a wonderful yummy-sweets filled afternoon.
Sadly, I won’t be dressing up this year so today I decided to at least put on a smokey eye look for our dinner + movie plans.
I might need to go buy myself some candy too… icon razz FOTD: Grey Blue Smokey Eye featuring MAC Scene and Graphology

FOTD Grey Blue Smokey Eye copy FOTD: Grey Blue Smokey Eye featuring MAC Scene and Graphology

So here’s what I have on.
It’s a fairly easy smokey eye. It just requires lots of blending!

FACE
Tarte Smooth Operator – Agent 04
MAC Blot Powder – Medium

CHEEKS
MAC Well Dressed Blush

EYES
Base: MAC Paint Pot – Imaginary
Eyeshadows: MAC Scene, MAC Graphology, MAC Kid
Highlight: theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer
Eyeliner: Loreal Paris Telescopic – Carbon Black
Waterline: Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencil – Zero

BROWS
MAC Concrete Eyeshadow

LASHES
Forever21 False Lashes

LIPS
MAC Nude Rose Lipstick

Smokey Eye for Asian eyes FOTD: Grey Blue Smokey Eye featuring MAC Scene and Graphology

Want to replicate this Smokey Eye look?  Here’s how!

  1. Use your finger to apply MAC Paint Pot in Imaginary over your lid. Pat on the color darkest at the lash line and fade the color out as you hit the crease line. Don’t worry if this doesn’t look perfect, we’ll blend out shortly.
  2. Take a firm blending brush and MAC Scene eyeshadow and blend all over the lid fading as you go upward. This will smooth out the Imaginary application.
  3. Take a flat shader brush and apply MAC Graphology eyeshadow all over the crease but concentrating on the lash line creating the shape that you desire.
  4. Take the firm blending brush and blend Graphology into Scene.
  5. Take a clean fluffy blending brush and MAC Kid eyeshadow to blend out Scene upward toward your brow.
  6. Use the flat shader brush and dip into Scene eyeshadow and rim the lower lash line. I skipped the inner third of the lower lash line to keep my eyes looking a bit more open.
  7. Line your upper lash line with a black liquid eyeliner. I used Loreal Paris Telescopic.
  8. Go over your waterline with a black pencil eyeliner like Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on pencil in Zero.
  9. Highlight the inner corner of your eye and under your eyebrows with theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer or any highlighter of your choice.
  10. Make sure you blend blend BLEND away any harsh lines.
  11. Apply false lashes. And you’re done!
Geez, it always sounds so much more complicated when you type it out.  I promise it’s not that difficult once you have the basic smokey-eye technique down. Essentially it’s all about blending.  Now I’m not saying that I’ve mastered this look but practice does makes perfect!
Wishing you all a fun, safe Halloween!

FOTD – Featuring Urban Decay Smoked Palette

Urban Decay Smoked Palette 225x300 FOTD Featuring Urban Decay Smoked Palette

I’m pretty dang excited right now! Remember how I told you that I was most excited for the Mushroom eyeshadow from the Urban Decay Smoked Palette? I was planning on buying just the single eyeshadow when I discovered that it was going to be included in this amazing palette.  Well, today I discovered the BEST base pairing for it!  It’s Benefit’s Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liner in Skinny Jeans!  It’s like they were meant to be together.  Click here for my review for Skinny Jeans!

Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liner in Skinny Jean – $19
Urban Decay Mushroom Eyeshadow – $18
Urban Decay Smoked Palette – $49

It’s COMBO-TIME!! This is Mushroom eyeshadow with the Skinny Jean base (indoor)

And outdoors – isn’t the color gorgeous??

Benefit Skinny Jean topped with UD Mushroom swatch in sun 225x300 FOTD Featuring Urban Decay Smoked Palette

And now the look

Smoked Palette Everyday Look 298x300 FOTD Featuring Urban Decay Smoked Palette

So I started off with Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liner in Skinny Jean as a base. Then I used Freestyle from the Urban Decay Smoked Palette to blend it upward.  I used Kinky right under by eyebrows as my highlight and then Evidence on the outer corner of my eyes.  I lined my eyes with MAC Fluidline in Added Goodness and lined the outer bottom lash line with Barlust.  Then highlighted my inner lash line and corners with theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer.  Last step, I curled my lashes and used Covergirl LashPerfection mascara.

Whew- that sounds like a lot of steps just for eyes but honestly it’s so fast when you do it (versus writing it all out!).

I wish my camera did a better job at capturing the true colors of the eyeshadows. Trust me it looks darker in person.

And last but not least, CRAZY-EYE!!

I’ll keep working at figuring out how to take better photos.  In the meantime, let me know if you’ve discovered an amazing eyeshadow combo! I’d love to give it a try!

Wishing you a love-filled day!

Wedding Day Makeup Trial

Hi Everyone!

I was just going through some old photos and I found the first makeup trial that I did for my wedding.  My makeup artist worked at MAC at the time so all products used were from the MAC counter.  You like?  I think my actual wedding makeup was similar to this but I can’t quite remember- I guess we’ll see once my photos come out next month! So excited!

LOREAL Hip Duo in Electrified and FOTD

Happy Wednesday all!

Today was so BEAUTYFULL here in Seattle! The sunrise was amazing filling the sky with an ombre of yellow, orange and lots of pink! So pretty! And I got a good view of Mt. Rainier at work.  It’s amazing how such good weather and nature can brighten our moods icon smile LOREAL Hip Duo in Electrified and FOTD

In my stocking for Christmas this year, I received the Loreal Hip Duo in Electrified. I’ve wanted this ever since I saw Jen review it on her blog/youtube (www.frmheadtotoe.com).  It wasn’t exactly what I expected (not as purple on me) but I do like it.  It’s highly pigmented, super soft and easy to blend.

So yesterday I had  a chance to stop by the mall to check out the MAC Naturally line.  I have to admit I was a bit disappointed. I had high expectations for the eyeshadows and planned on picking up a couple… but once I got a swatch the colors just didn’t look the way that I had hoped. icon sad LOREAL Hip Duo in Electrified and FOTD  I ended up picking up A Perfect Day lipstick (review coming soon) and hoped to get the Redhead Mineral Skinfinish but they were sold out!!  I may go over to another mall to see if they have it.

Time to go get ready for bed and watch some Conan! Hope you all have a beautyfull night!

Trans-Siberian Orchestra- MAC Humid Eyeshadow

My sweet boyfriend took me out last Saturday and I wanted to blog about it before a whole week had passed. We had happy hour at a small hole in the wall lounge in Seattle and then went to go see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.  Having never heard of this orchestra, I went in with no expectations except knowing that I’d be listening to Christmas music.  Wow, was it a show.  There were lasers, fire and crazy talented guitarists head banging their long flowy rocker hair.  It was quite an experience and I’m so glad that I got to share that with Maximus! Thank you!!

By now, you probably know that I like to stick with my neutral colors.  But on Saturday I thought Hey- I’m going out, let’s have some fun experimenting with colors!  I busted out my neglected Humid and this is the look I came up with.

IMG 2212 300x225 Trans Siberian Orchestra MAC Humid Eyeshadow

IMG 2207 300x188 Trans Siberian Orchestra MAC Humid Eyeshadow

All of the eyeshadows used were MAC.

Highlighter: Brule/Shroom
Lid: Humid
Crease: Carbon
To blend Humid with highlighter: All That Glitter
Liner: MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack

To complete the look, I wore a green scarf to bring out the green in my eyes. Although I love my neutrals, it really is pretty fun to experiment with fun bold colors either on the eyes or lips.

What non-neutral colors do you like to use on your eyes?

My head feels so much lighter | My new haircut!

I got a haircut today!! I seriously feel like so much weight has been taken off of my head and shoulders- what a relief! I’m not sure how many inches were taken off… but it’s at least 4-6 inches.  The style is very simple and I think it makes me look older.  The hope is that I’ll style my hair more often now that I have less of it.  We shall see, haha. What do you think?

rsz img 0303 272x300 My head feels so much lighter | My new haircut!

I feel bad that the last few posts didn’t have much content on it.  So here is a swatch that I did a while ago.  Just in case you were wondering what MAC’s Cream Colour Base in Pearl looked like:

rsz img 0190 300x225 My head feels so much lighter | My new haircut!

MAC Cream Colour Base in Pearl | $16.50

rsz img 0191 300x225 My head feels so much lighter | My new haircut!

rsz img 0189 300x225 My head feels so much lighter | My new haircut!

The reason I made this purchase a while back was because I was looking for a highlighter.  People with oily skin (like me) need to be careful when highlighting.  It can either make your skin look glowy or oilier.  I tend to skip highlighting my cheekbones (except when I’m not in a rush- rare) but do use this to highlight my brow bone.  I’ve tried applying it with a brush like the counter girl suggested but I found that my brush bristles were falling out and getting stuck in the pot – gross.  So I’ve been using my fingers to apply which I haven’t really enjoyed doing.  I realize that I prefer powder over cream.  When it comes to speed and application, I just find powder easier to work with.  Overall, I don’t think I’ll be purchasing this again.

Here are some other highlighters that have been on my mind.

theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer | $24

P242000 hero My head feels so much lighter | My new haircut!

Out of all the Lumizers at Sephora, I thought this was the prettiest.  I didn’t buy it only because they were sold out at the time.  I might try this out soon as the weather starts to warm up.

NARS Blush in Albatross | $26

957324 sw My head feels so much lighter | My new haircut!

One of my besties, Ellen, uses this as a highlighter and it looks lovely on her tan olive skin.  I haven’t swatched it yet, but since Ellen approves of it, it’s worth checking out! (^ v ^).  Speaking of Ellen, she gave me my birthday present this weekend (yes, my birthday was in February, haha) and it was a Sephora gift card. MY FAVORITE!! (thanks Ellen!)  This means that I will be spending time on Sephora.com trying to figure out what I would like to try out next.  Maybe it’ll be the Mary-Lou Manizer… hehe

Happy Beautyfull Monday!
