MAC Shale Eyeshadow Swatch and Review

I’m really excited to share my next MAC eyeshadow with you because it is THE FIRST eyeshadow that I ever bought from MAC.  It’s MAC Shale- a mauve plum with subtle shimmer.  As you know, I’ve always been in love with the purple tone family so it’s probably no surprise that this was the first eyeshadow that I picked up.  Thinking back, I felt so grown up making this purchase at the MAC counter inside of Nordstrom, haha.

Okay, bare with me as I go through this “I don’t know how to take photos” stage.  The only natural lighting that I get these days is through dark overcast clouds so I’m working on figuring out how to get some artificial lighting indoors.  Today I just used a regular flash.  Makes my pictures look a little creepy… but I AM actively looking into some better equipment.  Any recommendations are welcome! :]

MAC Shale Review

MAC Shale Eyeshadow review

Shale Eyeshadow MAC

Shale eyeshadow is super versatile and is appropriate for all occasions because of how soft and sheer the mauve-plum shade is.  It’s definitely a shade that you can wear everyday.  I would say that it’s the plum-tone version of Satin Taupe because it’s just as blendable and you can create an eye look with just this one eyeshadow.  In the photos above I have on MAC Shale eyeshadow and lined my eyes with MAC Fluidline in Added Goodness.  Easy-peasy right?  To create more dimension you could add a pearly-beige shade like Vex or Shroom to the inner third of your eyelids and/or darken the outer V with a dark plum like Shadowy Lady.

MAC Shale is not quite as pigmented as Satin Taupe or any Urban Decay eyeshadow so it takes a bit more time to build up the color.  On the up-side, it leaves no fall out on my cheeks and under my eyes and it’s super hard to over-do the look.  It’s so easy to create beautiful soft plummy looks with Shale.

I might be biased since this is my first MAC eyeshadow and it has a special sentimental place in my heart… but I’d totally recommend this shade to everyone! If this review hasn’t convinced you, at least go check it out at the MAC counter and try it on! :]

What was the very first eyeshadow that you’ve bought?  Do you still wear it today?  Let me know in the comments below!

Wishing you a wonderful start to the weekend!
